Client Spotlight: Melissa and Joel!

Look familiar!? I fell in love with this image of Melissa and Joel as soon as I took it. They are such a great couple- they are so sweet and kind to each other- and just in sync. But they aren't that saccharine-sweet that may cause a gag reflex... they are totally the couple that every one looks at and envies... they are that good. It doesn't hurt that they are also personal friends that go way back either! Please enjoy just a few out of such a breathtaking day!

Q: How many does it take to help you into your dress?
A: 4 bridesmaids, and your mom.

*going to the cha-pel and we're gonna get mar-ried*

Client Spotlight: Ridge

Caption reads: How YOU doin?!

Client Spotlight is on my little man Ridge! He is one of my babes that I am documenting all year long with the Innocence Package. I love doing these packages- because I really do get to watch these fantastic babies grow-up into toddlers... it's such an awesome thing to document. This is from Ridge's 8 mos session- so next time I see him I will be holding a cake and a camera! I can't wait! Here are a few more from his shoot- and the last one is one of my favorites from his very first newborn shoot- so you all can see just how much he has changed!

Everything goes in the mouth at this stage, doesn't it?

And from his newborn session:

Yo! What's up!?!?

Okay- so, I haven't been doing as well with the blog as I said I would. BUT- I have been shooting a ton in the meantime! Business is great- and super busy, and wedding season has me running in every direction as it does every year. One year I will finally decide to give into the Chaotic forces that just are during wedding season, instead of deluding myself that I just need a new, improved, better, system, computer, camera, lenses, phone, more phones, etc. So, if you call the studio- and all you hear is maniacal laughing- it's me- it's me living in the 'now' of wedding season! Bwahahahahaha! But I can share a few of the lovely peeps that I have shot lately... Here is a recent Bridal I did here in Rome- isn't she a beaut!?!?!?

I'll show some more later, when I can tear myself away from the camera that seems to have implanted itself on my face!

This is my little dude- "J". He and his family were so awesome to shoot! Wait till you get a load of the awesome hair and eyes (their girls!), beauty (yes- I am talking about you E!) *wink*, and I will throw handsome compliment for dad too. Little J was just a doll, he played and played- I could have shot him all day long. They were such an upbeat and loving family- a joy to have in studio! Check them out!

Autism Awareness Day (and Month)

Today is Autism Awareness Day worldwide(April is also Autism Awareness Month). For many of my clients, everyday is Autism day- and some days are better than others. From Autism Speaks website:

Today, 1 in 150 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others... Autism was first identified in 1943 by Dr. Leo Kanner of Johns Hopkins Hospital. At the same time, a German scientist, Dr. Hans Asperger, described a milder form of the disorder that is now known as Asperger Syndrome (read more). These two disorders are listed in the DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) as two of the five developmental disorders that fall under the autism spectrum disorders. The others are Rett Syndrome, PDD NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder), and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder. All of these disorders are characterized by varying degrees of impairment in communication skills and social abilities, and also by repetitive behaviors... Autism spectrum disorders can usually be reliably diagnosed by age 3, although new research is pushing back the age of diagnosis to as early as 6 months. Parents are usually the first to notice unusual behaviors in their child or their child's failure to reach appropriate developmental milestones. Some parents describe a child that seemed different from birth, while others describe a child who was developing normally and then lost skills. Pediatricians may initially dismiss signs of autism, thinking a child will “catch up,” and may advise parents to “wait and see.” New research shows that when parents suspect something is wrong with their child, they are usually correct.

Early diagnosis and intervention seem critical to the success of treatment. This is why it is so important to me to get the word out. Your son or daughter may not be affected, but chances are- that you will know someone whose child will be affected. Please educate yourself about Autism, and support organizations like Autism Speaks this tax year. According to the Better Business Bureau Autism Speaks has spent 17.5 million dollars towards research, and another 6.6 million to boost awareness. UnScripted Photography and Project Jack are proud to support Autism Speaks. www.autismspeaks.org

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

This post is to officially announce a dream come true: Project Jack. I am tearing up a bit just writing that out!
Project Jack is a division of UnScripted Photography. This division, however, is dedicated solely children, teenagers, and adults with special needs. My staff stylist (Abby) and I identified this incredible need thanks in part to her son Jack (and our namesake!), but also in her stubbornness of only wanting THE BEST for her son- whom has special needs. I, in fact, went to college to end up as a Physical Therapist. I worked under a pediatric physical therapist for years- and loved it. But I ended up as a professional photographer (through a divine and weird turn of events). But I always loved those children.
Today- what seemed like an abandoned career that I wasted years on, and my true love of photography--- I have came full circle.
I am extremely motivated to feed this community with beautiful pictures of their children and teens. I find it incredible that ANY parent would have nothing but a good time with a photographer and the pictures afterwards. With Project Jack I hope to reach out to those parents- get them to try 'one more photographer', and EARN the honor of being included on their child's circle of professionals. Just wait and see- it's going to be amazing.
Please go check it out at: www.projectjack.org

Crazy Times at the Dot Com

If you happen to be one of my loyal site watchers, or you enjoy coming back to the site to see what's new- you have more than likely seen a big shift over the past weekend. The welcome page and the site itself have received a face lift- new color schemes and photos for you to check out there.
Currently- I have been running around a bit crazy. Not quite 'Brit-Brit Crazy', but certainly my own brand of crazy. It's that time of year for wedding planning and booking, and many many consultations. I have also been very busy with a new division of my business- that you may have seen the logo for on my home page. It is called 'Project Jack'. It is not quite ready to be announced and un-veiled yet, but it will be ready soon! I am extremely excited about this new project, and I cannot WAIT to get it up and running. Really and truly- I believe it to be my life's calling- and I look forward to sharing it with everyone!

Oh Geez. The pressure.

Dudes. I hate the first blog post. There is always the pressure to get started on the right foot, and be all witty, and smart, and funny. I don't know about all that. My witty and funny parts are usually self-depreciating... and self-depreciating only works if you know me. Which you probably don't... you have no idea- because we are at the beginning- the first post. And now we have came full circle folks, and I am doing a good job of excessively rambling. That's NOT embarrassing.

Okay- what about a picture!? That always works with my friends! I throw a shiny picture in front of them, and all else is forgotten!!! How bout some shiny pictures of my kids. I am using my children. I know. Go ahead and pass me the mother of the year award :)

This is my 5 year old (just turned five a few days ago!) Audrey. She *is* the princess. You can attempt to tell her otherwise, but you may want to employ the use of the helmet I handed you earlier.
Ain't she purty!?

And I am introducing the new little man to the neighborhood. This is Jack. He is tha man. Seriously- his belches are disturbing to be 4 months old.
I just want to nibble him ;)
And for some shameless promotion of my professional abilities, and because I am so gosh darn proud that I actually got MY OWN greeting cards out in the mail, here is a copy of our holiday card:

Really that is an accomplishment that I not only designed my own, but I also got them in the mail before Christmas! I love my clients, but usually my personal projects slide during the holiday season because of the rush to get all those orders designed, printed, shipped, and finished! I made it happen, and no selling of my soul was involved. Point for January.
Have you forgotten about the brain-numbing rambling earlier? Did the pretty shiny pictures distract you enough? I certainly hope so- because now, the first painful post is over- and we can move on to greener pastures. Whew. Thanks for staying with me through it. :)
